Our Programs

The Cornwall Child Center offers three levels of programming: Infant & Toddler Care, Transition Room, and Pre-School. Explore our programs below, including with sample day schedules for each section.

Our programs run both during the school year and in summer. We have Full-Day and Half-Day options. Tuition costs are listed below.

"At the Cornwall Child Center, outdoor time isn’t just play—it’s an adventure. Our child climbs, digs, and explores, and we love seeing them discover new things in such a hands-on, nature-filled environment."

Infant + Toddler Care

For ages 3 months through 3 years

Each day our Infant/Toddler Room is carefully designed to balance comfort, exploration, and learning. Mornings often begin with gentle greetings, diaper changes, and snack time, followed by supervised floor play where infants can explore sensory toys, soft blocks, and interactive activities.

Toddlers enjoy hands-on learning through songs, story time, art, and simple group activities that encourage social interaction and early language development. Outdoor time is included whenever possible, giving little ones the chance to crawl, walk, or run in a safe, natural space.

Throughout the day, our teachers respond to each child’s individual schedule for naps, meals, and quiet time, ensuring every child feels secure, supported, and cared for in a warm, nurturing environment.

8:00–9:00 am: Children arrive at the Child Center and begin child-initiated play
Handwashing upon arrival

9:00–9:30 am: Diaper changes and snack

9:30–10:00 am: Teacher-directed play

10:00–10:15 am: Group Time with story time and songs

10:15–11:15 am: Small Group Time – During this time, children may choose from a variety of activities such as painting, gluing, coloring, preparing play-dough, and other hands-on projects. Participation is encouraged but always optional, as children are supported in following their interests. Outdoor play is also available. For smooth transitions and individualized attention, the classroom operates in two groups.

11:00–11:30 am: Diaper changes and handwashing

11:30 am–12:00 pm: Lunch

12:00–2:30 pm: Nap Time

2:30–3:00 pm: Diaper changes (or sooner if a child wakes earlier) and handwashing

2:45–3:15 pm: Snack

3:30–4:30 pm: Outdoor play and/or gross motor activity

4:30–4:45 pm: Child-initiated play and diaper changes as needed

4:45–5:00 pm: Story Time and songs

Please note: As one might expect, the Toddler Room is less structured than the other programs offered at the Child Center, given the children’s ages and the wide range of developmental stages represented. Additional toys, books, and art supplies are stored in the basement resource room, allowing the environment to be continually refreshed to support a stimulating and engaging play space.

Because toddlers have diverse interests and varying attention spans, our teaching staff keeps the day moving by continually interacting with the children and enriching their experiences. As a result, maintaining an exact schedule may not always be possible. The daily schedule is subject to change as needed.

Transition Room

For ages 2-3 years

Our Transition Room bridges the gap between toddlerhood and preschool, helping children gain independence, confidence, and social skills. Mornings often begin with free play and small-group activities that encourage exploration, creativity, and problem-solving.

Throughout the day, children participate in hands-on learning experiences, including arts and crafts, early literacy activities, and simple science or sensory projects. Outdoor play is a key part of each day, allowing children to run, climb, and explore in a safe, supervised environment.

Circle time, songs, and story time help develop language and social skills, while snack and rest times provide structure and balance. Our teachers focus on each child’s individual needs, fostering curiosity, self-expression, and a love of learning in a supportive, engaging environment.

Pre-School

For ages 3-5 years

In the Preschool Room, children engage in hands-on learning that sparks curiosity, creativity, and social growth. Each day begins with morning circle time, where children greet friends, share ideas, and set the tone for collaborative learning.

Throughout the day, kids explore a mix of activities including early literacy, math, art, science, and imaginative play—all designed to encourage problem-solving, independence, and cooperation. Outdoor play is an essential part of the day, giving children the chance to run, climb, and explore nature while developing gross motor skills.

Story time, music, and movement activities help reinforce social and emotional development, while snack and rest times provide structure and balance. Our teachers guide each child’s growth in a supportive, engaging environment that prepares them for kindergarten and beyond.
