Children learn best at this age by exploring and discovering in the environment through active involvement with one another. Our teachers assess children on an ongoing basis using a variety of methods. At every age, there are development guidelines, socially, cognitively, physically, and creatively. Our teachers use guidelines from the CT Department of Education, along with a curriculum-based program “Creative Curriculum”, all of which are tools approved and designed for our setting. There is also a helpful Kindergarten Readiness checklist to assist with preparation and transitioning to the grammar school of choice. In the past, our Preschool teachers have met with the Cornwall Consolidated School Kindergarten teacher and participated in the grammar school tour to help with the transition.
The Preschool room includes 6 major programs, each with individual learning objectives. They include:
- Art Area
- Reading Corner
- Math Manipulatives (include tabletop toys, puzzles, games, Lego’s, lotto games)
- Music Area
- Science Area
- Housekeeping Corner
